You’ve probably all seen the “Ten-Day Motherhood Challenge” exploding on Facebook, where mothers post photos depicting a day-in-the-life of a mama. The idea being that there is so much negativity in the world right now (I’m looking at you COVID-19), people want to flood Facebook feeds with positivity—and what’s more positive than seeing sweet, angelic photos of people’s kids?
I was nominated for this challenge and, much like the challenges I remember from elementary school gym class (can anyone really do that stupid rope climb, anyway?), I failed. I posted one photo on one day, and then completely dropped the ball (again, much like elementary school gym class). So, in the spirit of positivity, I figured I’d give it another shot here, as illustrated through internet memes. Full disclosure: I created none of these, but they all made me feel so seen.
We’ve all been there… (Haven’t we??? Please say it’s not just me) That baby that has to be held All.The.Time. Just daring you to put her down so she can start screaming. Again.
(Expensive) Family Photo Sessions
My kids, literally every time they see a camera. I just want one decent family picture. Although seriously, our family photographer is amazing. Ten minutes before our session, I’m sweaty and stressed, the kids are running around getting dirt on their clothes and knots in their hair, and my husband keeps telling me to “calm down” (even though never, in the history of the world, has saying “calm down” ever made someone actually calm down). Somehow, it all comes together with Evie and Jr. Photography, and the pictures always turn out amazing.
Date Night with the Hubs
Getting ready for date night with my husband. Huh. I guess this is just how I look now. Wait, maybe a necklace will help… Nope.
“Watch me, watch me, watch me, Mama!”
That feeling you get when you watch your kiddo learn something new is the most thrilling in the world. The first time they take a few wobbly steps. The first time they pump their own legs on the swing. The first time they ride a two-wheeler. This is how you’ll feel watching it for the 2,795th time…
If only I was this popular in high school. Now, I’m just desperate for ten uninterrupted minutes so I can finish cleaning the dog puke off the carpet.
A Little Me-Time
Me, always working hard to maintain that mom-bod.
Hold it All Together
Be a stay at home mom, they said. It will be fun, they said. Two kids, and a global pandemic quarantine later…
“No Grown-Ups Allowed!”
The other day, my kids made a fort with some old blankets draped over the kitchen chairs. I was told no grown-ups were allowed. It was beautiful.
Money, Money, Money
Kids are expensive. With the money spent on diapers, preschool tuition, and Frozen merchandise, we could have bought ourselves a boat by the time our kids head to kindergarten.
My Whole Life
Despite it all, being a mom is the best thing that’s ever happened to me (although my body doesn’t necessarily agree with that sentiment…). Just look at those two!
